Health Canada has expanded its recall of Oster French Door Toaster Countertop Ovens after adding another model to the list of units posing a burn hazard. The recall affects ovens sold across major Canadian retailers including Walmart, Costco, Home Hardware, Amazon, and others. The updated notice issued on December 8 adds model TSSTTVFDDG-033 to the previously recalled models TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDXLPP-033 and TSSTTVFDDAF-033.
The affected ovens feature spring-loaded French doors made of glass with metal handles, and the issue stems from the doors unexpectedly snapping shut during use, creating a burn risk. Health Canada’s original advisory urges consumers to immediately stop using the ovens and contact Sunbeam Products Inc. for a free repair kit. Oster says the kit includes a clip-on device designed to ensure the doors stay securely open.
Between 2015 and mid-2025, more than 170,000 units were sold in Canada and over 1.29 million in the United States. U.S. regulators have recorded 95 reports of injuries, including two cases of second-degree burns. No incidents have been reported in Canada so far, though authorities emphasize proactive caution. Oster notes that the injuries are similar to common household kitchen burns but supports the recall to improve safety.
The ovens were sold both in-store and online for prices ranging from $140 to $250. Consumers who experience issues with recalled appliances or other products can submit incident reports to Health Canada or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
