Charlie Woods Misses Cut in Pre-Qualifier for PGA Tour Event

Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, faced disappointment in the pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic, shooting an 86 with a notable 12 on one hole. The event, held at Lost Lake Golf Club on Thursday, saw Woods struggle to make birdies, ultimately tying for 110th among 112 players.

In the pre-qualifier, the top five and ties from each of the four sites progress to the Monday qualifier, with four players earning a spot in the Cognizant Classic at PGA National. Unfortunately, Woods fell short of this mark, unable to overcome his challenges on the course.

Despite his struggles, Woods has showcased his talent in the past, notably participating in the 36-hole PNC Championship alongside his father in a scramble format for the last four years.

During the pre-qualifier, Woods encountered difficulties early on, particularly on the seventh hole, where water hazards proved troublesome, resulting in his hopes fading. Ultimately, he carded an 86, with the leading score coming in at 65, and it took a 67 to advance.

Playing alongside Olin Browne Jr., son of three-time PGA Tour winner Olin Browne, Woods navigated the course amidst tough competition. Browne Jr. shot a 72, contrasting Woods’ performance.

Participation in the pre-qualifier requires a $250 entry fee for players without tour status, reflecting the competitive nature of the event.

While Charlie Woods faced disappointment in this pre-qualifier, his journey in golf is just beginning, echoing his father’s early experiences in the sport. Tiger Woods, at 16, received a sponsor exemption to play in his first PGA Tour event, the Nissan Open at Riviera, where he missed the cut with rounds of 72-75.
