Canadian entrepreneur turns YouTube skills into $1.4M video production business in five years

A Canadian entrepreneur has built a $1.4-million video production company after teaching himself video editing through YouTube and steadily scaling a business that began with small local gigs.

Tuan Le, a self-taught video editor with no formal business background, started by offering low-cost services to local businesses to build his portfolio. In his first year, he earned $8,500, followed by $17,400 in his second year.

His third year coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, which wiped out most of his clients. Despite earning just $12,350 that year, Le reinvested all his income into the business and sent thousands of cold emails. The strategy paid off, with revenue rising sharply to $110,000 by year’s end.

In the fourth year, Le hired his first employee and grew the company to $350,000 in revenue. By the fifth year, the business had expanded to a 15-member team, working with several major brands and generating $1.4 million in total revenue.

Reflecting on his journey, Le said he considered quitting but stayed the course. “Running a business has been the hardest but most fulfilling thing I’ve done,” he said.

After sharing his story on social media, Le received widespread attention, with users praising his persistence and asking what changes led to his breakthrough. Many highlighted his consistency and long-term focus as key factors behind his success.
