National museums and galleries across Canada have reported a 15% surge in attendance this summer, fueled by the Canada Strong Pass, which offers free or discounted entry to young visitors. The program, in effect since June 20 and running until September 2, grants free admission to children 17 and under, and a 50% discount for those aged 18 to 24. It also covers entry to national parks and Parks Canada sites.
According to Hermine Landry, spokesperson for the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, July attendance rose 16% year-over-year at the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum. The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum saw a 24% jump, while the National Gallery of Canada recorded a 2% rise. Some provincial and territorial museums have also joined the initiative — the Manitoba Museum, for example, reported an 11% increase in July visitors compared to last year.
