Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended the opening of Sanofi’s new Vaccine Manufacturing Facility in Toronto, supported by a $20 million federal investment. The facility, the largest of its kind in Canadian history, will produce vaccines for whooping cough, tetanus, and diphtheria for Canada and 60 international markets. This initiative is set to create over 200 jobs and support over 1,000 jobs in Ontario.
The facility is part of a broader strategy to enhance Canada’s vaccine production capabilities. A second facility, backed by a $415 million investment from the Strategic Innovation Fund, will manufacture flu vaccines, ensuring Canada can respond swiftly to future pandemics.
“Vaccines save lives. That’s why we’ll be producing a lot more of them in Canada,” said Prime Minister Trudeau. Premier Doug Ford added, “This new state-of-the-art facility is another vote of confidence in our workers and our growing life sciences sector.”
