On the evening of March 3, a Pizza Pizza establishment in Brampton experienced an unusual drive-thru encounter when a Peel Regional Police (PRP) car crashed into the building, adding a surreal twist to a pursuit originating from a carjacking incident in Toronto.
According to PRP, the incident unfolded as officers were in pursuit of suspects who had carjacked a Lexus in Toronto. The chase led several police vehicles to a plaza on Mississauga Road, just south of Williams Parkway.
While the police vehicle did not directly collide with the building, one of the tactical vehicles ended up merging into the windows and framing of the Pizza Pizza store.
Peel Regional Police informed Now Toronto that damage was sustained by PRP vehicles, the suspect vehicle, and the building itself. Repairs will be managed by insurance companies, as is customary in such situations.
A customer service operator at Pizza Pizza shared with Now Toronto that the store had to close temporarily due to the incident. When a store’s status is marked as “red,” customers are unable to enter physically, but delivery services remain available.
Two individuals were apprehended by police without any reported injuries.
PRP clarified that its involvement was limited to assistance during the incident, as the carjacking originated in Toronto. Toronto Police Service has assumed control of the investigation.
Residents of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) reacted to images of the damaged cars shared by freelance photographer DR. Opinions ranged from frustration over perceived leniency towards suspects to calls for a more proactive policing approach reminiscent of earlier times.
