A year-long police investigation has resulted in charges for seven Brampton residents among 20 individuals facing approximately 300 charges related to gun and drug trafficking. The extensive investigation, which led to the seizure of $2.5 million in drugs and nearly $250,000 in cash, was conducted by York Regional Police in collaboration with Peel Regional Police, Toronto Police, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The 14-month joint-forces operation, named Operation Lookout, began in April 2023. It targeted a “large-scale gun and drug trafficking network” operating in York Region. During the operation, officers seized 18 illegal firearms.
According to police, the operation focused on members and associates of the Haywan Gang, believed to be involved in trafficking firearms and high-quality cocaine into the southern part of York Region, primarily Vaughan.
The investigation culminated on June 5 with the execution of 33 search warrants across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The operation led to the seizure of 18 guns, 19.8 kilos of cocaine, 4.8 kilos of cannabis, as well as quantities of MDMA, Xanax pills, and oxycodone pills. The drugs have an estimated street value of $2.5 million.
Additionally, investigators confiscated $244,335 in Canadian currency, four vehicles, and luxury watches valued at $255,000 as proceeds of crime.
