Ontario Sikhs & Gurdwara Council Celebrates Khalsa Day with Nagar Kirtan

The Ontario Sikhs & Gurdwara Council is proud to announce the upcoming Nagar Kirtan and Khalsa Day Celebrations (Khalsa Sajna Diwas), a vibrant celebration of Sikh heritage, spirituality, and community unity. This annual event will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, marking 46 years since the first Nagar Kirtan in downtown Toronto.

  • End: Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto City Hall
• Time: Kirtan from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Better Living Centre, followed by the Nagar Kirtan starting at 1:00 PM

Event Highlights

The Nagar Kirtan, a traditional Sikh procession, commemorates the formation of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and reflects the values of equality, selfless service, and justice. This celebration welcomes people from all communities to experience Sikh traditions and hospitality firsthand.

For the past 46 years, Sikhs have proudly brought their faith, culture, and message of peace to the streets of Toronto. The procession will showcase their proud religious heritage through vibrant floats, school bands from various Khalsa Schools, and student participants from Punjabi schools of the Gurdwaras. Prominent dignitaries, elected officials, and community leaders are expected to attend and address the gathering.

The parade will feature the singing of kirtan (devotional hymns) by Sikh sangat (congregation), with Guru ka langar (community kitchen) served at both the BLC and Nathan Phillips Square. A variety of refreshments will also be available for attendees at Toronto City Hall.

• Parking and Transportation: Sangat can park in the morning and take the shuttle bus from the CNE. Buses will be running from various Gurdwaras in the GTA and from more info they can contact the nearest Gurdwara where we will place the Khalsa Souvenir, which is specially printed every year and also contains all the information.
