Mabuhay Brampton! Filipino Heritage Month Celebration Brings Community Together at City Hall

BRAMPTON, ON – The spirit of Filipino culture, heritage, and community will be on full display as residents gather at Brampton City Hall and Ken Whillans Square to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Hosted by the City of Brampton in partnership with the Brampton Filipino Seniors Club and the Federation of Filipino Canadians in Brampton, and sponsored by Algoma University, the event will showcase the rich traditions and contributions of Filipino Canadians through music, dance, food, cultural presentations, and community engagement.

The celebration will begin with a Community Flag Raising Ceremony at Ken Whillans Square, followed by an exciting cultural program inside Brampton City Hall. Attendees will enjoy traditional and contemporary Filipino music and dance performances, cultural displays, community presentations, and authentic Filipino cuisine, including the popular Filipino dessert, halo-halo.

Filipino Heritage Month is celebrated across Canada every June to recognize the many contributions Filipino Canadians have made to the social, cultural, economic, and civic life of the country. It also commemorates Philippine Independence Day, celebrated annually on June 12.

The Filipino community continues to play an important role in the growth and success of Brampton. Filipino Canadians have made significant contributions in healthcare, education, business, public service, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and volunteerism, helping to strengthen the city’s diverse and inclusive character.

Mayor Patrick Brown welcomed the celebration and acknowledged the important contributions of the Filipino community.

“Brampton is proud to be one of Canada’s most diverse and inclusive cities, and Filipino Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions of Filipino Canadians to our community. From healthcare and education to business and public service, the Filipino community continues to enrich the cultural fabric of our city. I encourage everyone to join us in celebrating the traditions, achievements, and vibrant heritage of our Filipino residents,” said Mayor Brown.

The event will provide residents of all backgrounds with an opportunity to experience Filipino culture firsthand while fostering understanding, inclusion, and community connection. Through music, dance, food, and cultural storytelling, organizers hope to strengthen appreciation for the traditions and values that have shaped the Filipino Canadian experience.

Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 and 5, expressed her enthusiasm for the celebration and its significance to the community.

“Filipino Heritage Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich culture, resilience, and community spirit of Filipino Canadians. As someone who is proud of my Filipino heritage, I am delighted to see residents from all backgrounds come together to honour our traditions, music, dance, food, and shared values. Events like these strengthen community connections and showcase the diversity that makes Brampton such a welcoming and vibrant city,” said Councillor Santos.

The celebration reflects Brampton’s commitment to embracing multiculturalism and recognizing the diverse communities that contribute to the city’s success. Heritage celebrations such as this provide meaningful opportunities for residents to learn from one another, build lasting relationships, and celebrate the values of respect, inclusion, and unity.

Organizers encourage residents, families, seniors, youth, and community groups from across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area to attend and participate in the festivities.
