Jays Soar Past Yankees 5–2, Punch Ticket to First ALCS Since 2016

The Toronto Blue Jays thrilled fans on Wednesday night with a decisive 5–2 victory over the New York Yankees, clinching their first postseason series win in nearly a decade and earning a spot in the American League Championship Series (ALCS).

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set the tone early at Rogers Centre, driving in George Springer with a first-inning single to right field after Springer opened the game with a leadoff double.

The tension built through the middle innings, with the Jays holding a narrow 2–1 lead until the seventh. That’s when Nathan Lukes delivered a clutch line-drive single to centre, bringing home Ernie Clement and Andrés Giménez to extend the lead to 4–1.

Toronto leaned on a bullpen game strategy, using multiple relief pitchers instead of a traditional starter—a bold move that left some fans anxious but ultimately shut down New York’s offense. The Yankees managed just two runs: a Ryan McMahon solo homer in the third and an Aaron Judge RBI single in the ninth.

The Blue Jays will now face either the Seattle Mariners or Detroit Tigers in the ALCS, which begins Sunday, October 12. Toronto will have home-field advantage for the best-of-seven series.

Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. today, as fans across the country gear up for what could be a historic playoff run.
