Avtar Golf Academy’s 21st Annual Father & Son Golf Tournament Celebrates Family, Fun, and Unity at Caledon Country Club

The 21st Annual Father & Son Golf Tournament, held on September 13, 2025, at the scenic Caledon Country Club, turned out to be a grand celebration of golf, family, and friendship. Blessed with a perfect golfing day, the event brought together over 120 golfers — fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, siblings, husband-and-wife teams, and even grandfathers and grandsons — making it one of the most memorable tournaments to date.

The day began with a heartfelt welcome from Avtar Brar, the founder of the tournament who started this tradition 21 years ago to bring families together through the sport of golf. In his remarks, Brar introduced Hansika Tathgar, one of his earliest students whom he personally taught to play golf when she was just seven years old.

Hansika’s story inspired many in attendance — after earning a golf scholarship in the United States, graduating, and now running a successful business, she is a four-time Women’s Champion of RattleSnake Golf Club. Her presence at the tournament served as a shining example of how grassroots encouragement can create champions both on and off the course.

One of the highlights of the tournament was the participation of 97-year-old golfer Hukam Singh Gill, who played alongside his grandson. Speaking after the game, Gill remarked, “Golf keeps me young. Playing with my grandson today was a blessing — this tournament is not about winning or losing, it’s about cherishing family and living life to the fullest.”

The spirit of togetherness was echoed by Nimrata Shergil, a long-time participant, who shared, “I have played in this tournament for many years, and every year it feels like coming home to a family reunion. This is what golf should be about — unity, laughter, and love.”

Prominent sponsor and participant Dal Kalra, who played with his son, added, “It’s an honour to support an event that builds bonds across generations. Watching fathers, sons, daughters, and grandparents all enjoying the game together is what makes this tournament so unique.”

From start to finish, the day was filled with great energy, great participants, and great food. The club’s fairways were alive with friendly banter, the sound of drives and putts, and moments of shared triumphs.

The evening culminated with a vibrant dinner reception and entertainment program featuring live music, dance, and heartfelt speeches. Representing the Indo Canadian Golf Association, Gian Paul remarked, “Events like this go beyond golf — they are a celebration of community spirit. The atmosphere today was full of positivity, and it’s a joy to see so many families coming together.”

In his closing address, Avtar Brar thanked all the golfers, families, volunteers, and sponsors for their unwavering support over the past 21 years. “This tournament is not about winners or losers,” Brar said. “It is about family unity, memories, and friendship. Thank you for making this day special, and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.”

Brar also announced that the proceeds from this year’s tournament will be donated to support victims of the recent floods in Punjab, demonstrating the event’s commitment to giving back to the global community.

With clear skies, warm hospitality, and the participation of golfers across generations, the 21st Annual Father & Son Golf Tournament was hailed as a grand success by attendees. Its continued legacy as an event that promotes not just golf, but togetherness and compassion, remains stronger than ever.
