More Active Years Ahead: Brampton Lowers Free Recreation Age to 65

The City of Brampton is making it even easier for older adults to stay healthy and active by expanding its popular free Annual Recreation Membership program to residents aged 65 and older. Building on the success of the free 70+ Annual Recreation Membership launched last year as part of Brampton’s 50th birthday celebrations, the expanded program now opens the door for even more residents to benefit from a wide range of recreational activities at no cost.

Starting today, eligible residents can register for the free 65+ Annual Recreation Membership. Beginning June 1, 2025, those enrolled will have free access to the City’s recreational services, including fitness centre memberships, racquet sports, swimming, skating, group fitness classes, aquafit sessions, public swims and skates, dance programs, and more. Residents are encouraged to visit any City of Brampton recreation centre to verify eligibility and register, with proof of age, residency, and citizenship or permanent residency status required.

This initiative reflects Brampton’s ongoing commitment to promoting active living, mental wellness, and community connection among its senior population. More than 7,000 residents signed up for the 70+ membership in its first year, and by lowering the age threshold to 65, the City hopes to make recreation even more accessible to the approximately 82,000 residents who are 65 and older.

Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized that seniors have helped build Brampton into the thriving city it is today and deserve every opportunity to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle. Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Chair of Community Services, added that expanding the program is a proactive investment in seniors’ physical and mental health, responding directly to community feedback received through the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

The City of Brampton is committed to building an inclusive, age-friendly community where all residents can thrive. To learn more about the new free 65+ Annual Recreation Membership and available services for older adults, visit brampton.ca/memberships or brampton.ca/seniors.
