City of Brampton Proclaims April 2 as World Autism Day, Illuminates Clock Tower in Solidarity

The City of Brampton proudly joins communities around the globe in recognizing April 2 as World Autism Day, reaffirming its commitment to promoting inclusion, understanding, and acceptance of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Brampton City Council officially proclaimed the day during its recent meeting, encouraging residents to take part in raising awareness and celebrating the unique strengths, talents, and contributions of people with autism. In a symbolic gesture of support, Brampton City Hall’s iconic Clock Tower will be illuminated in green this evening — a colour that represents growth, harmony, and a call for greater understanding.

“World Autism Day is a meaningful opportunity for us to acknowledge the incredible diversity within our community and stand alongside individuals and families affected by autism,” said Mayor [Insert Mayor’s Name]. “By fostering awareness and education, we create a more compassionate and inclusive city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Autism spectrum disorder affects approximately 1 in 50 Canadian children, with each individual presenting a unique range of abilities and challenges. Brampton continues to work closely with educators, health professionals, advocacy groups, and families to ensure services and supports are accessible and equitable.

Throughout April, which is also recognized as Autism Awareness Month, residents are encouraged to wear green, participate in community learning events, and engage in conversations that promote understanding and reduce stigma.
