Singh Says He’s ‘Still the Guy’ to Lead NDP Into Next Election

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he is “absolutely” the right person to lead the party into the next federal election, despite recent polls showing a drop in support.

A Leger poll suggests the NDP currently holds 14% support—a number that could drop to 12% if Mark Carney becomes Liberal leader.

Singh pushed back against both the Liberals and Conservatives, accusing them of planning federal spending cuts that could affect health and dental care programs—two key policies the NDP has championed.

He also raised concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated calls for Canada to become “the 51st state”, saying this poses a direct threat to Canada’s universal health care system.

“I will fight like hell to defend public health care,” Singh vowed.

With a federal election potentially looming as early as mid-March, the NDP has nominated 140 candidates in 343 ridings as of February 14.

Despite lagging poll numbers, Singh insists he remains the best choice to lead the party into the campaign.
